Cold Brew

Coffee can be brewed cold, resulting in a concentrate that may be kept in a refrigerator for up to six weeks.  This concentrate can be mixed with hot or cold water (or your favorite spirit) to make a deliciously smooth cup of coffee. If you prefer a coffee that features sweet notes, with noticeably lower levels of acid, then cold brew is your method.

Brewing with the Filtron 30L Cold Water Coffee Concentrate Brewing System

We use the Filtron Cold Brewer but you can use any method with which you are comfortable (french press works but be sure to use a paper filter when separating the grounds from the concentrate). Here is how we brew with the Filtron system:
  • Grind 12 oz of Phillies Bridge coffee using a very coarse grind (slightly more coarse than french press).
  • Place the filter pad and the rubber stopper into their respective areas at the bottom of the Filtron coffee bowl.
  • Pour the coffee grinds into the Filtron coffee bowl.
  • Place the Filtron grounds guard on top of the coffee.
  • Place the filtron water bowl on top of the Filtron coffee bowl.
  • Pour 56 oz of refrigerated water into the Filtron water bowl.
  • Place Filtron system in the refrigerator for one hour.
  • Remove Filtron water bowl and grounds guard.
  • Agitate the coffee grinds by stirring with a butter knife.
  • Put the coffee guard and water bowl back onto the Filtron system.
  • Refrigerate for 15 hours (or to taste).

Decant and Enjoy

  • Remove system from the refrigerator after brewing has completed, remove the rubber stopper on the bottom, and place the Filtron system on top of the decanting vessel.
  • When all of the concentrate has been decanted, cover the vessel and place in the refrigerator.
  • Mix one part concentrate with two parts hot or cold water. Adjust ratios based on your personal preference.
